Introducing The Tunable White

Modular International announces another state-of-the-art addition to its energy efficient 579e line of products.

As a follow up to the overwhelming success of both high output and energy efficient static white 579e and high output Dim-to-Warm LED modules, Modular International is proud to release its next addition to their LED module lineup with the introduction of Tunable White LED modules.

Tunable White LED modules, sometimes called Dynamic White or Circadian Lighting modules, allow independent control of both the intensity of the light and the color of the light separately. This control is referred to as intensity and color tuning.

Some unique Details: Circadian lighting systems use both techniques to simulate the dawn to dusk cycle. This concept of circadian lighting follows our internal 24-hour clock which controls the release of melatonin produced in the hypothalamus within the brain. Research and clinical tests have indicated that certain wavelengths (and intensities) of blue light over extended periods will impact human circadian rhythm causing the hypothalamus to limit melatonin production.

Tuning the kelvin temperature to a warmer spectrum (1800K-3000K) and reducing the intensity of light during peak melatonin production times (early morning or evening hours) will help lessen the impact on occupants’ circadian rhythm. This intensity and color tuning mimics when the sun is at its lowest point at the horizon.

During peak daylight hours, when cognitive function, retention, alertness, and productivity are required, circadian lighting system will tune the kelvin temperature to a whiter spectrum (3500K-6500K) and increase the intensity of the light to reduce the production of melatonin. This intensity and color tuning mimics when the sun would be at its mid to highest points in the sky.

Modular International’s Tunable White modules can color tune from 2700K-6500K while allowing intensity tuning from 100%-0.1% while also exceeding industry averages for lm/w efficiencies across a wide range of wattages and delivered lumen packages in 70mm and 90mm diameters.

The exact facts: The 70mm (AR70 size) Tunable White module offers a 13*, 15**, 18*** 30-, 40-, or 50-degree beam angle, 10-14 watts, 586-1,256 delivered lumens, 55-87 lm/w (tested at 2700K, 3500K & 6500K) and 92-97 CRI (R9 value >62-94). Fixture aperture opening: four inches and larger.

(*13° beam angle only available with LEDTW-710 module; **15° beam angle only available with LEDTW-711 module; ***18° beam angle available with LEDTW-712 & 714 modules)

The 90mm (PAR30 size) Tunable White module offers a 30-, 45-, 60-, or 90-degree beam angle, 17-22 watts, 1,548-2,457 delivered lumens, 88-109 lm/w (tested at 2700K, 3500K & 6500K) and 92-97 CRI (R9 value >61-88). Fixture aperture opening: five inches and larger.

Modular International offers six main product families within its portfolio of Modular Multiples® fixtures allowing the Tunable White modules to integrate into recessed adjustable and fixed new construction or retrofit downlights, cable and surface mounted multiples or cylinders, and custom engineered lighting solutions.

Modular International’s Tunable White modules have a double gimbal ring assembly giving 45 degrees of adjustability, 360 degrees of rotation, and optional locking mechanisms with field changeable reflectors for onsite aiming and adjustments. Standard and customizable shielding options for reduced glare control and wall washing are also available and will hold up to two 1/8” think filter media for additional performance and lighting control.
